The Faculty of Mathematics of the UCM and the
UCM Research Group "Mathematical Models in Science and Technology:
Development, Analysis, Numerical Simulation & Control" organize this
event within the framework of the Master of Mathematical Engineering of the
UCM.
The purpose of this event is to use
mathematics as a tool to solve problems arising out of the industry. The
presentations and exhibitions will take place on Monday 16th and Tuesday 24th and
attendance is free for all
interested
The event will have 4 parts:
- On Monday, June 16th, 2008 a
representative of each invited company will present a problem to the
participants.
- Then students will be separated into
Working Groups and each group will be installed in a laboratory equipped with
computers, Internet access and the tools they may need to work from16:00h.
to 21:00h until Monday June 23th, 2008. Each Working Group will be coordinated by
one or more teachers.
- On Tuesday, June 24th each Working Group will
deliver a report describing the results and conclusions reached and one or
more of its members will make a public presentation.
- Each Working Group will write a paper setting
out the results and conclusions reached.
Students
from the Master of Mathematical Engineering at the Complutense University of
Madrid, students from the invited European Masters and a limited number of
students from other Masters may participate in the event.
The official language of the event will be English, although probably one of
the Working Groups will do all its work entirely in Spanish.
