Semana de la Ciencia 2017

Madrid Science Week is an event of scientific dissemination and citizen participation organized by the Madri+d Foundation that offers the public the opportunity to learn about the work of scientists, their research, motivations and efforts. It allows society to know the latest advances in science.

In 2017 (November 6 to 19), the Complutense University of Madrid, as in previous editions, organized workshops in various faculties. HOU SPAIN, within the Faculty of Mathematical Sciences, organized the activity:

"Opening Windows to the Universe: Spanish facilities of the WSO-UV space telescope"

This activity took place in the FISAC building of the Faculty of Statistics in the Complutense University of Madrid, on November 14th and 15th, 2018. It consisted in the organization of guided visits to the facilities of the Scientific Operations Center of the WSO-UV space telescope.

Each visit consisted of three parts. First, a brief introduction was given to the astronomical observatories and the WSO-UV telescope within that context. Afterwards, the visit continued with a presentation of the WSO-UV project in detail, its facilities on Earth (in Russia and Spain) and the role of the Center for Scientific Operations of the WSO-UV in the Complutense. Each visit ended with the passage to the Control Room, where the role of each functioning system was explained in detail
