Matrix-Analytic Methods

The matrix-analytic formalism is popular as a modelling tool where scalar quantities are replaced by matrices. Such a procedure is closely related to structured Markov chains and the method of stages, and it gives one the ability to construct and study, in a unified manner and in an algorithmically tractable way, a wide range of stochastic models that have embedded renewal processes of M/G/1- or GI/M/1-types.
